My First Seaplane Flight

So there we were, driving around Maine, when we spotted a seaplane overhead. Excited and determined to find a seaplane base nearby, we drove around until we stumbled upon this...

Ahhhhh...... Seaplanes!!!! Yesssss!!!!!

We saw all kinds of planes on floats, and that made Mike and me both smile. So hmm, which one would we fly? We called the phone number listed on a little shack and out from the nearby house walked the owner of N3426Y, who also happens to hold an instructor certificate. I guess you can tell that this story gets even better...

Excited and ready to go, our instructor asked if I wanted to fly it - left seat. DUH! Mike got his seaplane rating 25 years ago, and he was so happy to see me fly my first seaplane, so he patiently rode in the back seat and took lots of pictures. Here are a few...

Learning to fly a seaplane is a little different, mainly for taxi, take-off, and landing. I felt I was getting the hang of it and Mike and the instructor both said I did well.

We flew over to this small pond where I could practice some take-offs and landings. Of course, the scenery was beautiful, but I was just thrilled with my first seaplane experience.

Mike took this picture just as I touched down for one of my landings... or is it called "seaing"?

All too soon it was time to return to base. Here's my fourth and final landing on this first seaplane flight.
