ICAS Scholarship

The following is posted on the website of the International Council of Air Shows Foundation:

"Jan was an outstanding aerobatic pilot. She flew an aggressive and energetic program, including multiple snap rolls, lomcevaks, torque rolls and knife edge spins. In addition to performing, Jan won many aerobatic competitive titles, including the 1992 US National Sportsman Champion, International Aerobatic Club Sportsman Champion, Illinois State Sportsman Champion, and the 1992 L. Paul Soucy Award.

"Jan died May 9, 1995 from injuries sustained in an aircraft accident. Jan was not only a respected aerobatic pilot, she was loved for her sparkling, energetic personality, her passion for flying, and her willingness to share her knowledge with others.

"The Jan Jones Memorial Scholarship has been made possible through an endowment from Jan's parents, William and Mary Jones and other generous donors. The scholarship provides a grant to be applied towards aerobatic training. The recipient must be a female, hold a private pilot's license, and write a short essay on why she wants to learn aerobatics. The recipient is selected by a panel of female aerobatic pilots, and announced at the International Council of Air Shows Annual Convention, held every December."

I am humbled and honored to announce that the ICAS has chosen me as the recipient of the Jan Jones Memorial Scholarship this year. Thank you, ICAS Board and Mr. and Mrs. Jones.
