Our final stop of the day was at the church ATC sponsors. With three sides, half a tin roof and a dirt floor, the church is alive with people praising and praying. While most of the money donated to ATC has gone to building feeding centers, clinics, schools, purchasing farms, and stocking clinics with medical supplies, there is so much more the organization would like to do.
We looked at a piece of property available near the church which ATC is considering purchasing to build a women’s shelter for the rape victims of that area – the very women we met with who are at such high risk. The estimated cost to build the shelter is $35,000, and women would be fed, cared for, and taught marketable skills so they could eventually return to society and take care of themselves.
After a full day of touring these sites, we returned to the guest house for our last night there. We would leave the next day for Rwanda, spend the night there and then head on to Nairobi and eventually back to the States.
