I'm baaaaaaack! I just returned from Central Africa on Saturday evening.
Thanks to Missy for posting the update on Myles while I was gone. He has been hospitalized a few times for fever, but apparently with no other complications, so it may just be flu. Chemo continues and another CT scan will be taken in a couple of weeks.
On this most recent trip I was one of 8 on a mission team, visiting Sudan and Congo. In addition, three media folks went along, two who are producing a 5-part series for television and one still photographer who shot for a book.
The show will be aired on one of the network affiliates in Roanoke, Virginia beginning Saturday, September 24th at 7pm, and each consecutive Saturday. If you know of anyone in the media, in any city, or even know someone who knows someone, I am looking for referrals and contact information for media sales people in any city. Here's a synopsis:
The tv shows will be five separate 30-minute programming, each show 22 minutes of actual content with 8 minutes commercial time.
Its a reality show format somewhat similar to a Survivor format, without competition. It will show how this team prays with, ministers to, and helps persecuted Christians in the regions of Sudan and Congo, and how 8 ordinary Christians survived two weeks in war-torn Central Africa (including one team member who fought an infection after being bitten by something... guess who that would be!)
Portions of the show are graphic and strong in nature, for example, there is graphic information pertaining to rape victims.
I am working with the producer, Steve Mason, who was with Channel 7 in Roanoke for several years and now owns a production company there. I believe the series will be very powerful and successful. Ads for the series will begin running in Roanoke/Lynchburg - over 200 ads for the series will air before the 24th.
If you think you might have a line on a contact name, please let me know - we'd like to get this series aired in as many cities as possible! The people I'll want to talk to are in sales; the ones who will sell ad space for the series.
I will post photos soon - and yes, I did get to co-pilot again, from Sudan to Kenya, in a Cessna Caravan, with a wonderful Finnish pilot. :)
