Hey Yall. I'm back in Houston. Angie suggested that we not exhaust all resources at one time so since Justin is on leave till this Friday and Angie's dad and step-mom are there locally I will wait until she calls to say she needs help. It's hard to be there but its hard to be away too.
Since I'm not there I don't have up-to-the-minute info, but what I do know is that Myles received his first two doses of chemo Wed. night (last week) and on Friday morning he had a spinal tap. The docs removed some spinal fluid and sent up some chemo.
We had some concern about his heart rate and the n-g tube but both issues appear to be okay. His heart rate is irregular and they will be watching it. He had an EKG and an echocardiogram. A cardiologist came by Friday to take a look at him and at the EKG. Apparently one of the meds in the mix of chemo can cause this, but since Myles seems to be always the abnormal in medical expectations they will keep an eye on this. The n-g tube was irritating his stomach and was finally removed, but not before Myles was lobbying loud and clear for McDonald's.
Angie says Myles is now looking a little puffy, a reaction from the chemo, but that the talk now is toward shortening the duration of the treatment to avoid toxicity. I've heard 8 weeks and now I've heard 4 weeks. So, we'll see. Whenever they're finished he will be transported back to Duke for another bone marrow transplant.
As a side note - Riley Children's Hospital frequently has celebrities come to visit for PR. One day last week it was Jeff Gordon. Having grown up around auto racing I wasn't really impressed and had no desire to go see where he was... BUT - on Friday it was a different story!
Angie thinks I'm a dork, but I couldn't help but be excited when THE USAF THUNDERBIRDS were there in Myles's hospital room!!! They gave Myles a little toy airplane and I got my picture taken with them - which I WILL post as soon as I get it from the Riley media guy. Oh boy was I ever excited!!! (and a dork). :)
